Hydronic Radiant Heating
Bellows Plumbing & Heating offers a full range of repair and installation service for most all radiant and hydronic heating systems.
Radiant heating is widely regarded as the most comfortable, healthiest, and most natural heating process available. People are warmed in the same way as they are warmed from the sun on a cool day. Floor drafts, cold spots, and dry air are eliminated. Low humidity levels, dust, air contaminants (mold, fungi, bacterium and viruses), all problems associated with forced-air heating, are greatly reduced and in many cases non-existent in a home with a properly designed radiant heating system.
In addition a properly installed and maintained radiant system can run at extremely efficient levels. If your radiant system is experiencing problems let the qualified technicians at Bellows assist you. Learn how radiant heat works | Clicking here...
Hydronic heating systems are usually greatly more complex than traditional forced air heating systems. With pumps, manifolds, air separators, filters, boilers, panels, valves and more there are plenty of areas for failure in an un-maintained hydronic heating system. We've seen all of the items listed fail. The good news is we can usually make same day hydronic heating repairs and our friendly staff of field technicians is always available for Marin, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara.
In addition to service and repair we also offer a full line of new high efficiency boilers and water heaters from Phoenix, Munchkin, Apollo Hydroheat, and Taco. Give us a call if you're considering installing a new hydronic system or looking to upgrade and change out your existing system.
What We Service
Radiant Heat Benefits
COMFORTABLE
Radiant heat is evenly radiated throughout the floor and room, objects themselves actually absorb the heat put off by the radiant source. There are no fans to force air movement. The heated area is kept at the floor level around the objects and people to be heated. Inversely, the ceiling temperature becomes cooler than the heated floor area by a few degrees. While these low temperatures greatly reduce unnecessary heat losses, this arrangement ensures every corner of the room is consistently maintained within one degree of air temperature. This allows you to sit next to a window, in the middle of the room, or walk about from room to room with little temperature variation. In comparison on the standard forced-air system the temperature difference between the ceiling and living environment can be 60 degrees since the warm air is introduced from 110-115 degrees F. This difference results in drafts, uneven heating, inefficiency, increased fuel costs, and poor management of room temperatures.
CLEAN AND HEALTHY
Since the radiant heating does not use fans to distribute heat, circulation of dust and other airborne particles is prevented. There are no filters to clog with debris and pollen. Radiant heating is especially advantageous for those with allergy problems.
QUIET
Again there are not fans not moving parts in the home so the system is completely quiet.
ENERGY EFFICIENT
The typical radiant heating system is going to run you slightly more than the same forced air system. However, you save through ongoing fuel savings. Heat loss by air infiltration and through windows is greatly reduced. Radiant energy doesn’t collect at the ceiling, along the walls, and around windows like forced air heating systems do. You'll also find that you set your thermostat a few degree cooler than on a forced air system, yet still have the same level of comfort. An effective system utilized advanced building insulation practices and allows clients to enjoy higher fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs which reduce heating bills over other conventional heating systems.
COST EFFECTIVE
All things being equal, a house heated by hydronic radiant panel heating system will use 25-50% less fuel to provide a comfortable living environment. We are able to save fuel with a radiant system through the used of zoning, high efficiency boilers, heat loss reduction, and lower thermostat settings. Most people with radiant heat systems live very comfortably with the thermostat settings of 65 degrees F. In a warm-air heated home, you can experience cold and discomfort with a thermostat setting of 72 Degrees F. or more. This significant different in target temperate translates into a major energy savings over time.
LONGEVITY
When the proper high quality materials are used and properly installed a boiler can easily last 30 to 60 years in a closed loop hydronic radiant panel heating system. This is double or triple the life of the average warm air furnace.
LOW MAINTAINENCE
Maintenance is very affordable on most hydronic systems. An standard inspection and cleaning every 2 - 4 years is all that's need to guarantee long term trouble free service.

How Radiant Heat Works
Radiant Heat is based in principle on the primary source of heat we know -- the warmth of the sun. Hot water radiant heat, like natural sunlight, warms you and the objects around you instead of the air you breathe as other heating systems do. Radiant Heat also assures gentle draft-free circulation in each room of the home. Radiant heating can be installed into new concrete slabs on gravel grade, or to cap an existing floor. It can also be installed in panel radiators. Modern radiators are far different than the big bulky radiators you remember from grandmas house. | more
